The Secret Lives of Sarah Hausman is a tale of high hope and dreams gone sour, of love found and love lost.
Who among us has not wondered why some are born into lives of good health and luxury, while others begin and end their lives in poverty and adversity? This enigma is explored through the life of seventeen-year-old Sarah Hausman. Born in 1898 in Plymouth, Indiana, she meets and falls in love with Ralph O'Reilly, the older brother of one of her high school classmates. They have a brief love affair, which leaves her unwed and pregnant when Ralph leaves to join the Army. Sarah follows him to California only to discover he is already engaged to someone else.
Following the loss of her baby, Sarah heads to Los Angeles where she is hired by Mack Sennett of Keystone Studios. A short-lived movie career ensues, but her tragedy haunts her when her husband is gunned down by mobsters. A series of dreams lead Sarah back in time and she eventually learns that she and Ralph have shared at least four previous incarnations. She’s whisked away to Ancient Egypt then catapulted forward 300 years into ancient Rome, from there she revisits her life as a Scottish maid in the Middle Ages, and finally encounters their life together as Mandan Indians in the early 1800’s.
When Sarah’s life is over, she’s offered a final opportunity to build and strengthen her character before her final chapter in the Book of Life comes to a close. She accepts the challenges set before her and is reborn as Judith Ann. But this time she’s returning to earth with a mission. Sarah, now Judith Ann, must rescue the soul of her former husband, Marcus Agrippa, whom she deeply loved in their earlier life in Ancient Rome. Everything is up for grabs and the stakes are high. Whatever she gains, or loses, in this, her final time on earth, will be what she takes with her into eternity.

This is one of those books that you really get lost in-the calgon take me away type of book. The author had me in the early 1900's from the descriptions of restaurants, language, clothing, and simplicity. I loved Sarah's character!Sarah was a good mannerable young lady that fell in love in an instant. She didn't understand her feelings and those awakened feelings started the travel dreams.
Sarah made some bad choices but she always came back to her senses and pushed on. She went from wholesome to embarrassed, broken hearted, taken advantage of, widowed, and depressed. This book took you through the emotions with Sarah and made you envision her.
Sarah ultimately finds her(selves) and truly opens her heart to God. I've never really believed in reincarnation but it was wonderful to be in a world that did. Imagine if we were allowed these chances and could view our past experiences AND recognize our present in our past and then our past in our future. 10 stars and I'd read this book again.

This book captured my imagination and kept me captivated with the life of Sarah Hausman. The author has an interesting view on reincarnation and christianity. I look forward to reading more books written by Janet Dense.
I thought this book was fairly interesting. I like books about reincarnation and this one seemed to be going strong. However, the author threw in too much religion, specifically about Jesus and being accepted by him at the end that I was sorry I had read it.
Sarah has lived many reincarnated lives. And everyone of them she is a whore. Finished the book but really regret it.
An interesting look at reincarnation from a more Christian point of view. It was all right and enjoyable,especially since it was a free ibook.
I got about 1/3 of the way through this book and couldn't finish. The dialogue is stilted, so much so that I would have suspected it was a children's book if not for the discussions of ample bosoms. It seems like a great concept for a story, but it just couldn't keep my attention.
While the title has some possibilities, this story goes downhill from there. The tale is little more than a meandering list of the things that happen to the title character over her sixty plus years of life in the early 20th century. There is no suspense, no intrigue, no real romance or real conflict, but rather a sequential reporting of a rather routine life. If you're into reality television and like boring single dimensional characters, then this is a book for you. Otherwise you might as well not bother.
The worst thing about this book was that I craved so much more. The author pictured the life and times of Sarah so vividly! I fell in love with her and really was concerned about her. Obviously the author researched the turn of the century life-style. I just loved the authenticity. But I felt so short-changed about her other lives. I wanted to delve into them and really immerse myself in them. But they were just snippets! The author is so gifted in describing surroundings, feelings, people and events, that I felt cheated that I knew so little about the Indian, Roman, etc. lives. Trying not to spoil, but at the end I wanted the story to go on and on! I wanted to know more! So, Janet Dense, give us more, more, more! This book made me think and ponder on a spiritual level and for that I'm grateful. I recommend this book for anyone interested in spiritual esoteric stuff.
